Perfect Care
Wii Therapy
Thanks to a grant from the St. Joseph Hospital Volunteers, the Rehabilitation Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka offers one of the latest in rehabilitation technologies - “Wii-habilitation.” Using an interactive Nintendo Wii game system, patients have fun while improving balance, stability, range of motion, coordination, cognitive abilities, hand-eye coordination and all motor skills. Patients often become so engaged in the games they forget they are exercising and play longer, pushing themselves harder in their efforts to win Wii tennis, golf, bowling, baseball, boxing and auto racing.
Childbirth Center and NICU
In July 2008, St. Joseph Hospital debuted a new “Laborist” program. This innovative program provides immediate access to an on-site obstetrician or certified nurse-midwife 24 hours-a-day, even for non-emergency care.
St. Joseph Hospital houses the North Coast’s only Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where infants requiring oxygen support, monitoring or who are younger than 36 weeks are cared for by specially trained nurses, doctors and other clinicians.

Sacred Encounters
The Labyrinth - A Journey to Peace
Redwood Memorial Hospital’s commitment to The Journey is exemplified by our labyrinth, which encourages and supports quiet meditation and contemplation. Patients, visitors and staff meditate as they walk, following the same path to the center and back out. The labyrinth provides a holistic experience that aligns with the hospital’s Journey philosophy of patient-centered care supporting and honoring the mind, body and spirit.
Hospital Volunteers
At St. Joseph Hospital and Redwood Memorial Hospital, volunteers contribute countless hours of their time at the front desk, helping discharge patients, running the gift shop, delivering newspapers to hospital rooms, providing musical and canine therapy for patients, knitting hats for new babies, driving the shuttle van, helping the environment with hospital recycling, stuffing envelopes and more.
Another service provided by volunteers at both hospitals is the Hospitality Cart, which they take to patient rooms to distribute books, magazines, playing cards and other activities. Volunteers at St. Joseph Hospital distribute ear plugs to help offset the outside construction noise. Top

The “No More Hungry Kids” school lunch program in Humboldt County is a collaborative effort in which rural communities and organizations come together to address the needs of vulnerable citizens.
During the summer lunch program, up to 50 children gathered at the Rio Dell Fireman’s Park to receive tasty and nutritious lunches. The program began on June 16 and continued until school started on August 15. During the school year, the Rio Dell Community Center provides After School Snacks to the students and distributes Backpacks for Kids every Friday filled with nutritious foods.
The No More Hungry Kids campaign also provides services at the Blue Lake and Willow Creek Community Resource Centers.
